Beaches - The blue flag beaches of the Vendee are gentally sloping, golden sand and vary from the very long (17km) from Le Faute sur Mer to la Roche which includes Le Tranche sur Mer and Les Conches to the small picturesque beaches that go from Jar sur Mer to Les Sable d'Olonne.
Towns And Cities. the most notable are:
Fontenay-le-Comte. Lively town with great acitecture,and a host of summer events.
LaRochelle. The jewel of the bay of Biscay.
A day out to this great City with its harbour side cafes and Restaurants, Busy Harbour, Aquarium, and the best shopping in the area is a must.
Mervent/Vouvant Forest this large forest has the river Vendee running through it,and this has been dammed to form three lakes. within the forest there are great picnic areas, Walks and cycle tracks.
At the north end of the forest is Vouvant, classified as one of the 5 prettiest villages in France.
Venice Vert - (Green Venice) a network of rivers and canals which were dug by the monks in the middleages to drain the Marshes. You can hire boats or bikes to explore the magical landscapes,or visit one of the many cafes and restaurants and watch the world go by.
